Chapter # 1 "Scenes of Our Salvation"

Message # 4 "Scenes of the Background"

Text:  I Peter 1:  10-12

Intro:  Not only is the background of the Old Testament vivid, but it is vital.

For the performance of Calvary to be real, it had to portrayed,

prophecied, and posted in the Old Testament.  Just as they were

ridiculed for looking to Calvary, we are ridiculed now for looking

to the Coronation.  They were on the little end of something big, and

                   so are we.

I.  NOTICE THE DILIGENT SEARCH

("of which salvation the prophets have inquired an searched diligently,

who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you.  Searching

what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them

did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and

            the glory that should follow.")

       A)  They searched for the Meaning ("of which salvation")

men today will stand on their thoughts about how to get to heaven,

and stumble all over the truth. "search the scriptures, for in them

ye thnk ye have eternal life".  They are searching in the wilderness

of their minds and this world, when the truth lies in the search of

               the Word of God.

      B)  They searched for the Manner ("searching what, or what

          manner of time")

Galations 4: 4 "when the fulness of time was come, God sent forth

His son".  God's timing is just as important as God's truth.  Both

are deeply grounded in God's foreknowledge and providence.

      C)  They searched for the Manifestation ("when it testified

beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that

        should follow")

The prophets understood that God's Word was settled in heaven,

and that God's Word was settled in their hearts, but they searched

for the day when it would be settled on the hill called Calvary.
